For many straightening hair causes and endless cycle of damage to the hair resulting in out of control and frizzy dry hair. It is time to change your products and create healthy straight hair. Permanent waves are bad for the hair. Most of the cases of hair darnage that we treat in our clinics, are caused by procedures like permanent waves. Permanent wave lotions contain chemicals that alter the structure of the hair and this is what causes the damage. The lotion penetrates the cortex, in order to soften hair and make it curl, or wave. In doing this, it actually changes the chemical nature of the hair. After the desired effect is achieved, an oxidising agent is used, to harden hair, making the curls, or waves, permanent. How To Straighten Your HairBefore attempting to straighten your hair, get it about 80% dry by blow drying with a diffuser, blotting with a towel, or waiting until hair dries naturally. It will require alot of heat if you have extremely curly hair, but always remember to use a shot of cool air to set the locks you have just straightened. Wash and condition hair. Blot dry. Hair should be almost dry when you begin. Gather up hair into several sections and secure or clip hair on top of your head. You will be drying the bottom layers first. Follow the brush (with your dryer) down the sections of hair as you straighten each section and be sure to keep the dryer moving. Take down a new section of hair and procede as directed above. Work your way up the layers until all sections are dried and straightened. The oval (elliptical) shape and natural crimp of Afro-Caribbean hair makes it difficult to straighten without damage.
