Laser Skin Resurfacing - Cost of Laser Resurfacing Treatment of Skin

Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure in which a laser beam is used to remove areas of old, damaged or wrinkled skin. This procedure is most commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, especially around the mouth and the eyes. It is done layer by layer. It is also effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation.

Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often, the procedure is done in conjunction with another cosmetic operation viz. facelift or eyelid surgery.

Condition cured by Skin Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is an outpatient procedure in the dermatologic surgeon's office for the following conditions:

  • Crow's feet around the eyes
  • Pucker marks and frown lines
  • Brown spots
  • Splotchy uneven skin color
  • Skin scars
  • Smoker's lines
  • Fine lines and wrinkles of the face,
  • Eyelid skin defects

Effects of Laser Resurfacing on Skin

  • CO2 laser has been used as the laser for resurfacing of skin. But, it causes burn-like thermal damage to the skin, resulting in very slow healing.
  • Erbium lasers did not cause thermal injury and their healing time was much faster. They are also not as powerful as the CO2 lasers.
  • Using the laser, the majority of my patients are back to a normal clear complexion with little or no redness in 3-6 weeks.
  • During the procedure there should be little if any discomfort.
  • Most of the patients use Tylenol or Vicodin EST (a mild prescriptive pain reliever) for 2-3 days after the treatment.

Beauty Makeup Tips

Brighten grey elbows by rubbing them with half a fresh lemon - it has a natural bleaching effect. Moisturize the skin afterwards to counteract the drying effects of the juice.
