Caring for cashmere
Cashmere is now a favorite comfort. All kinds of garments specially sweaters knitted of this soft, sybaritic fiber are decking out lucky men, women, teen agers and even children.
Cashmere garments can be dry cleaned, but professionals advise, washing by hand is best. The water should be lukewarm and the garment should immerse fifteen minutes in a mild liquid soap or detergent. Then rinse it under a running tap about five minutes, in cold water for the last few minutes.
Where does cashmere come from?
-
Cashmere fibre comes from combings of the swindle of the living kashmir goat.
- The best, undoubtedly, is yet bought, spin and made into garments in scotland.
- It is purely, the most expensive. Cheaper fibre comes from china, madagascar and other eastern countries. Pashmina is a woven mix of cashmere and silk, usually made into scarves, shawls and throws. The mix can differ but 50/50 is most common.
- Pashminas typically come from asia and the far east.
Clothing advice- How to care for cashmere
1: Regular hand washing
- Hand washing is the most excellent way to clean cashmere.
- Wets sweaters in sudsy, lukewarm water for five minutes, and then quietly squish to allow the suds wet through the fibres.
- Rinse in warm water using the same squishing action never wringing until the water is clear.
- Roll the garment in a towel to remove the extra moisture and to speed drying.
2: Pure cashmere wash
- Pure presents it's own exclusive perfumed pure cashmere wash for $15 in a 250ml bottle.
- This works our at 50 cents per wash. Fabric softener should be avoided as it reasons fibres to harden.
- Cashmere sweaters may be dry cleaned or hand washed with a gentle cleanser such as baby shampoo or Ivory flakes.
- Hand washing keeps them softer longer but can change the shape of your sweaters if not done carefully.
3: Machine washing
- Machine washing on a delicate cycle at 30'c or less does not harm high-quality cashmere but this will depend on the make and state of your washing machine.
- If you make a decision to machine wash, turn the item of clothing inside out in a laundry bag, such as the pure laundry bag with low price available.
- Use pure cashmere wash and set a low temperature 30'c or less and a short spin.
4: After Cleaning
- All garments should be re-shaped as damp and laid flat to dry, keep away from heat and sunlight.
5: Storing Cashmere
- Only store clean garments left. Moths do not so much hunger for the fibre, but for the food, dirt, perspiration or body oils left on a garment.
- Store clothes in breathable zip-up plastic bags in a cool place.
- Never place natural fibres like cashmere or wool in airtight containers. Let them breathe by using muslin or canvas bags.
6: Dealing with Stains
- Dry cleaning is your best solution. Many sweaters are labeled dry clean only, but most manufacturers put such labels on their knitted cashmere garments to care for themselves.
- If they recommended hand washing and it were done carelessly, they may be answerable.
- Pure recommends dry cleaning only if the cashmere is woven for example a pashmina. Some woolens designs such as pure's gassato are extremely airy and washing might interrupt the pattern.
Some tips for wearing cashmere
- It helps lengthen a garment's life distance if you permit your deodorant to dry completely before slipping into your sweater don't spray yourself with perfume as wearing cashmere because it stains the fibre and after wearing a garment air-fluff it in a cool (no heat) dryer to freshen.
- Do not wear the same garment often, permit the garment 2 -3 days in between wearing's.
- A silk rag goes well with a cashmere jumper or top and can keep the cashmere neckline from cosmetic stains.
- Do not wear your clean cashmere garment beside rough clothing, metal necklace, bracelet, belt and trimmings such as crocodile leather bags or rough fabric or beaded bags whose surface will damage the delicate cashmere.
