This plug is called a comedo. When bacteraia settle in thes plugs, they can cause a severe inflammatory reaction, resulting in more severe acne. The folicle becomes inflammed, forming pimples and pus-filled nodules. The milder forms of acne cane be treated with over-the counter drugs like benzoyl peroxide.
