How to make your clothes last longer
Very often we tend to take clothes for granted in the sense that we feel that we can handle them as we like and still want them to last long. Unfortunately they will not last long, unless and until we take proper care of them. The caring of clothing does in fact take up a sizable portion of the budget of a household these days. All that you need to take are some simple measures that will ensure that your clothes last for a long time.
Tips for long lasting clothes
The first thing that you need to check for on a regular basis on your clothes is for stains. Remember the longer they remain unnoticed, the more difficult it would be for you to remove them. The problem would only be compounded if you were to put in a cloth with a stained item in it. The best way to go about the stained item would be to rinse it properly as soon as the stain occurs.
A good detergent if put immediately after a stain occurs is enough to remove it. In some cases you would need to wash the stained area more than once. If the stain is stubborn you can always contact the dry cleaner and get it removed.
Take care to air dry your clothes as often as possible. This will avoid shrinking, which will ensure that your clothes would last longer. It is always preferable that you go through the washing instructions on the clothes before you wash them. This is so because each fabric is different and therefore might need to be washed in a different way. You must also check your clothes regularly for any small tear or some loose seams. They need to be stitched immediately into place which will ensure that your clothes last long.
You should also try and store your clothes for the season by ensuring that you clean them first and then iron them before folding them and keeping them in preferably tote boxes. Make sure that you place some cedar blocks in the boxes that will ensure adequate protection from insects and moisture. All these simple measures will help in your clothes lasting longer.
